It doesn’t matter if your kids are boys or girls, chances are they love taking their own pictures. That’s what makes the VTech Kidizoom Video Camera such a great gift. And they’ve got the whole boy and girl thing covered too with a blue or pink model.

VTech Kidizoom is not a newcomer into the field of childproof cameras. Just look back at the Kidizoom Plus Multimedia Digital Camera. It’s been on the bestseller list for a couple of years. This new model will be there too. In fact as you get closer to Christmas many experts predict this one may be hard to find.

Of course the first thing you want in a kids camera is for it to actually work, and take nice pictures and videos. This one does. But it doesn’t stop there. Kids can edit their pictures however they see fit and still make them look great with face tracking technololgy. Look, we all know kids can be silly and love silly things. Think of how much fun they’ll have adding a funny animation to your family portrait. And when they tire of taking pictures for the day (it may never happen), they can even play one of four games that are built right in.

But although this is a serious camera, it’s good to know that it’s built specifically for children. And by that we mean it really can handle some abuse. Kids treat their toys roughly and these cameras can handle it. While you don’t want to drop it from the roof, it’s built to handle pretty much whatever a toddler can dole out. Chances are you wouldn’t give your youngster your own camera to play with. It would be broken within minutes. Not so with VTech cameras.

If there’s a problem it is that the 256mb of memory can fill up pretty quick, especially at the rate kids take pictures. But the VTech Kidizoom Video Camera has this drawback covered since it comes with an SD memory card slot. Most kid cameras don’t have this feature, but you can get any standard SD memory card (they’re pretty cheap), put it in the slot, and your child will be clicking away for hours.

If you child takes videos, you can plug the camera into your TV or computer to watch.

If you read the reviews, another potential drawback is that the quality of the pictures isn’t overwhelming. OK, that’s a given. Remember this is a kids camera and you probably won’t be using it for your professional photography business. The picture quality is good (not great) but your youngster won’t care. He or she isn’t all that concerned about color variation and mega pixels. They’ll be too busy laughing at the funny hat they just drew on your head after taking your picture.

And it’s very easy for kids to use. No advanced degrees are required to operate the Kidizoom VTech Video Camera. There’s a couple of easy buttons and a color LCD screen that allows your child to view his creation instantly. Youngsters will be more than happy with that.

In addition to the video camera, there are some needed accessories included. This comes with a USB cable, wrist strap, AV cable and 4 AA batteries are included. You’ll really appreciate the wrist strap since kids to have a tendency to misplace their toys.

The bottom line is your child probably loves taking pictures and the Kidizoom VTech Video Camera will make a great gift this Christmas.
