This toy allows futures authors or artists to both write and illustrate their own story (great way to enhance imagination skills) on special book pages. The great thing is that once the story is finished, you send it off to be published. In just a few weeks your child will receive a professionally done hardbound book. I don’t think I need to explain how exciting it is waiting for that book to arrive.

And when it finally does arrive, the excitement will grow even more. One look at the book, complete with an author biography, dedication and everything else included in a real book, and your child’s eyes will light up. His self esteem will grow and he can’t help but be encouraged to continue to use his creativity.

Here’s how it works. Once your child finishes his masterpiece the manuscript is sent in a pre-paid envelope, It will take approximately 4 weeks for you to receive your 12 page, 7 inch by 9 inch book with a permanent hardback binding.

As for the awards. This toy won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award. It also won the Parents’ Choice Classic Award, The Best Learning Toy Award from Family Life, and the Dr. Toy Best Toy Classic Award.

Awards are nice, but what do parents and kids think? Well we search and simply could not find very many reviews where the user was not satisfied.

Just remember that this is recommended for ages 5-9. As such there are limits. If you are expecting your child to write a novel you’ll need to look elsewhere. The book is only 12 pages and the kit only allows 20 words per page so it will be unsatisfactory for older children.

But if you want to make your own story book with your younger child, the IlluStory Make Your Own Story Kit is a fantastic option.
