The first thing we usually say when we look at the Bardie holiday doll every year is “Wow!”. And the Barbie 2009 holiday doll takes the wow factor to a new extreme.

And why shouldn’t it. Barbie is celebrating her 50th year (she looks pretty good for 50) so Matel went all out with this one. She comes dressed in a stunning multilayers pale pink gown with jewels and gold lame. The bodice is wrapped beautifully with a bow and the tulle sparkles. And completing the look this year is a great pair of chandelier earrings and matching pink gemstones. Barbie will not stand on her own, but a doll stand that hides easily beneath the dress does the job.

So here’s the deal. Barbie is recommended for children ages 6 and up. And if your child wants this doll to play with, that great. But this Barbie is highly collectible as well. And serious collectors will not want to take her out of the box. So what do you do? The answer is simple. You’ll just have to get two of them. One to play with (or simply just display in your child’s bedroom) and one to tuck safely away. There’s no doubt your daughter will love showing her off on a table or shelf in her room. And you won’t have to worry about your prized collectible getting damaged.

This doll aso has a matching 50th anniversary ornament with a gold ribbon.

For people that collect Barbie, this is a must have. And yes there are people with every holiday Barbie dating back to the very first one. You will read comments stating that this is absolutely the prettiest one of the bunch. The reviews are all good, but again, they all state that this is primarly to be looked at and admired and not to be played with.

Parents of younger children should also be cautioned that this doll does come with small parts that could potentially create a choking hazard.

It comes down to this; the holiday Barbie doll is stunning and gorgeous, but it’s best to be admired and not played with. Still, if your child wants to play with the doll (and kids should be able to play with their toys), you may want to pick up a second for display or collectible purposes only.
